Product Information
- acetamide, N-(4-formyl-2-nitrophenyl)-
4'-Formyl-2'-nitroacetanilide (4FANA) is a colorimetric indicator that reacts with hydrazine to form a purple compound. 4FANA can be synthesized from the reaction of acetanilide and nitroethane, which produces a colorless solution. After this initial reaction, the solution is heated to produce the final product. The color of 4FANA changes from yellow to blue in acidic solutions and from yellow to red in basic solutions. This compound has been used as an indicator for phosphorylation reactions, due to its ability to undergo a color change when it reacts with ATP or ADP. 4FANA has also been used as a supernucleophile in organic chemistry and as an x-ray crystal structure for studying the binding of x-rays by moieties.
