Product Information

Name:
[3-(6-Aminohexylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane
Synonyms:
  • N-(6-Aminohexyl)aminopropyltrimethoxysilane
  • N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]hexane-1,6-diamine
  • Aminohexylaminopropyltrimethoxysilane
Description:

Trimethoxysilane is a silicon-containing molecule that is used in the manufacture of silicone polymers. Trimethoxysilane molecules can be functionalized with various functional groups and this allows it to be used in a wide variety of applications. Trimethoxysilane has been shown to have bactericidal properties, which may be due to its ability to bind to bacteria and prevent them from synthesizing proteins. This bactericidal effect has been observed using fluorescence microscopy on inflammatory cells. Trimethoxysilane binds to the surface of bacteria by adsorption or chemisorption, which can also lead to its bactericidal effects. Trimethoxysilane can also be used for magnetic nanoparticle synthesis.
