- 4-Bromo-2-chlorobenzoic acid ethyl ester
Ethyl 4-bromo-2-chlorobenzoate is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme 2,3-dihydrobenzamide, which catalyzes the conversion of benzoic acid to benzamide. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. Ethyl 4-bromo-2-chlorobenzoate inhibits xanthine oxidase activity in rat liver cells and prevents the formation of reactive oxygen species that may lead to cell damage. The crystal structure analysis of this compound revealed that it binds to the active site of 2,3-dihydrobenzamide. The pyridine ring system was found to be responsible for binding to amino acids on helices I and II within the active site.
