Polyglyceryl 6-dioleate is a pharmaceutical drug that belongs to the group of cardiac glycosides. It is used for the treatment of heart failure, as well as other conditions such as cancer and a number of neurological disorders. The therapeutic effect of polyglyceryl 6-dioleate is due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which causes an increase in levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides while reducing levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Polyglyceryl 6-dioleate has also been shown to cause vasodilation by inhibiting the enzyme kinesin, which promotes cell migration and proliferation.
