Product Information
Methyl 15-hydroxypentadecanoate is a long-chain fatty acid ester that belongs to the group of methyl esters. It is synthesized by the reaction of hexadecanoic acid and methyl alcohol with a catalytic amount of sodium hydroxide. The product has been shown to have surface properties that are similar to those of petroleum jelly, making it a potential replacement for this material in some applications. Methyl 15-hydroxypentadecanoate also exhibits antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and has been shown to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli in vitro.
