It has been synthesized from hydroxylamine and azetidine, followed by desilylation of the amide group under basic conditions and alkylation of the carbon atom in position 3 with tosyl chloride. The resulting product was purified by crystallography, revealing that it has a carbonyl group at position 1. This study also demonstrated that 1-tosylazetidin-3-one adopts a macrocyclic conformation.
