9a-Aza-9a-homo erythromycin A is a cyclic lactam antibiotic that belongs to the group of organic acids. It has been shown to have antibacterial, antimalarial, and antiinflammatory properties. 9a-Aza-9a-homo erythromycin A is active against gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus subtilis. The drug inhibits the production of inflammatory cells and inorganic acids by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. 9a-Aza-9a-homo erythromycin A also inhibits the production of inflammatory proteins such as TNFα and IL1β by suppressing the expression of nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) transcription factor.
