1-Boc-2-methylpiperidine is an active enantiomer of 1-Boc-2-methylpiperazine, which is a substituted piperidine. It is a potent γ-secretase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the production of amyloid β peptide in vitro and in vivo. 1-Boc-2-methylpiperidine binds to the active site of γ-secretase, preventing the cleavage of APP by this enzyme. This drug also inhibits β and γ secretases, as well as other enzymes involved in protein processing. 1-Boc-2-methylpiperidine has been optimized for activity against Alzheimer's disease by substituting the piperidine ring with a diaxial conformation.
