Locustatachykinin I is a β-amino acid that is found in the locust, and has been shown to be inhibitory to the growth of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Locustatachykinin I inhibits the bacterium by binding to its receptor and blocking its biological properties. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its inhibition of proctolin, a peptide hormone that causes inflammation. Locustatachykinin I shows synergistic effects with fatty acids, which are molecules usually found in cell membranes and are involved in many biological processes. In addition, locustatachykinin I has been shown to have receptor activity for the α 1 -adrenergic receptor, which is found in ganglia cells and can regulate nerve impulses.
