Arbitol sulfone-d6 is a calibration standard that is used for the quantitative determination of arbidol in biological fluids. Arbitol sulfone-d6 can be used to measure the pharmacokinetics of arbidol, a drug that inhibits the replication of human influenza virus and herpes simplex virus. This compound has been shown to have antiviral activity against influenza A and B viruses and herpes simplex virus type 1. Arbitol sulfone-d6 is stable and there are no known analytical interferences. Arbitol sulfone-d6 is also resistant to hydrolysis by nonenzymatic processes, such as evaporation or exposure to sunlight.
