Product Information
2-ethoxy-4-methoxy-1-nitrobenzene is a diazo compound that has been used as a building block in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It is created by irradiating toluene with x-rays or microwaves, which causes nitrogen atoms to replace the hydrogen atoms on the benzene ring. The alkoxy group can be replaced by nucleophilic or nucleophile groups to form 2-ethoxy-4-methoxybenzoic acid and 2-(2'-hydroxyethyl)phenol, respectively. These reactions are activated by heat and the presence of an alcohol solvent such as dimethoxyethane or toluene. The desired product can be isolated using vacuum distillation or crystallization.
