1-Aminonaphthalene-2-carbaldehyde is a quinoline derivative that is used as an organic solvent. The UV absorption spectrum of 1-aminonaphthalene-2-carbaldehyde shows maxima at 260 nm (UV), 270 nm (near IR) and 275 nm (visible). It has been shown to form dimethylformamide with sodium periodate, a subunit of DNA and RNA, in the presence of ferrocenes. This compound can also be used to synthesize benzoquinoline derivatives from naphthylamines.
