Product Information
(3S)-6-Oxopiperidine-3-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that is used as a preservative in pharmaceutical formulations. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is involved in the transmission of signals between nerve cells and muscles. This compound binds to the active site of acetylcholinesterase by forming a covalent bond with serine residues on the enzyme surface. The binding of (3S)-6-oxopiperidine-3-carboxylic acid leads to inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity and accumulation of acetylcholine at nerve endings, which leads to paralysis and death. The addition of (3S)-6-oxopiperidine-3 carboxylic acid to acidic conditions increases its inhibitory effects on microbial growth due to the increased solubility in these conditions.
