- (-)-Hyponine E
Hyponine E is one of the many esters found in the plant Tripterygium hypoglaucum. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus. The mechanism of action for Hyponine E is not well understood, but it has been shown to bind to the pyridine ring of bacterial DNA and inhibit its synthesis. This compound also has antimicrobial properties that are due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria. Hyponine E is also an alkaloid that can be extracted from Tripterygium hypoglaucum, which is a plant with anti-inflammatory properties.
