5-Bromo-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-indole is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it may be due to the inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase or topoisomerases IV. It has been found in animals, but not in humans. 5-Bromo-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-indole is insoluble in water and chalcones are resistant to nitrite, which may indicate its possible use as an antibacterial agent.
