Clindamycin 2-palmitate sulfoxide is a antibiotic that belongs to the group of lincosamides. This drug inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible microorganisms and has been shown to be active against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydia, rickettsia, protozoa, fungi, and viruses. Clindamycin 2-palmitate sulfoxide also has anti-inflammatory properties. Clindamycin 2-palmitate sulfoxide's antiviral activity has been demonstrated through its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis in human tumor cells infected with herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 and HSV type 2.
