Product Information
Sourced from the Ellen strain and cultured in a human embryo lung cell culture, this whole Varicella Zoster Viral (VZV) Antigen is partially purified on sucrose density gradient and presented in 0.1M glycine buffer, pH 9.5. It has been inactivated by treatment with β-propriolactone and its infectivity confirmed negative by absence of growth under original cell culture conditions. Repeated freeze thawing of the product should be avoided and the product should be sonicated before use.
As an alphaherpesvirus family member, VZV causes the common VZV primary inection: chickenpox. However if this lies latent in sensory neurons it has the ability to reactivate and cause shingles. This can lead to serious central nervous system infections. Of the antigens: glycoproteins E, B, H and L which make up its viral envelope, glycoprotein E is believed to be the most immunogenic viral glycoprotein. Therefore this antigen glycoprotein can be used in research and clinical applications such as in ELISA and the diagnosis of VZV.
