5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a synthetic compound that has been prepared by the reduction of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo[1,5-a]pyrazine with lithium aluminum hydride in ether. This technique is reported to give low yields of the desired product. The synthesis was accomplished in two steps. First methyl sulfone was synthesized from methanesulfonyl chloride and methanol. This intermediate was then reacted with methylthioacetic acid to produce the final product.
