9,9-Bis(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)fluorene is a monomer that has been synthesised and analysed. It is made up of two nitro groups that are bonded to each other by a carbon atom. The nitro groups are able to bind to a number of functional groups, including hydroxyls, amines, thiols and carboxylic acids. 9,9-Bis(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)fluorene has also been shown to be processable and can be used in the manufacture of polystyrene membranes. This monomer can also act as an adsorbent for techniques such as gas chromatography and spectrometry.
