(R)-Benzyl 5-methyl-1,4-diazepane-1-carboxylate is a hydrochloride salt of the suvorexant cocrystal. It is used as an anti-insomnia drug in the treatment of insomnia and other sleep disorders. (R)-Benzyl 5-methyl-1,4-diazepane-1-carboxylate is a benzodiazepine that binds to the GABA receptor found in the brain. The active form of this drug is suvorexant and it has been shown to inhibit rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and slow wave sleep, which are stages of sleep that are associated with dreaming. Suvorexant also inhibits the release of histamine, which is associated with wakefulness.
