3-Sulphurpentafluorobenzaldehyde (3SPBF) is an optimized chiral ligand that can be used in enantioselective synthesis. 3SPBF has been shown to be a good ligand for arylboronic acids, and the enantioselectivities of this compound have been investigated with arylboronic acids. Enantioselectivity is determined by the substituent groups on the phenyl ring attached to the sulfur atom. 3SPBF has also been found to be biologically active when bound to an enzyme. The nature of these interactions are not well understood, but it is hypothesized that they occur through hydrogen bonding or hydrophobic interactions.
