Product Information

Name:
Tropodithietic acid
Synonyms:
  • TDA
Description:

Tropodithietic acid is a naturally occurring compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. It has been shown to have bactericidal effects against Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and also inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli. Tropodithietic acid is a proton donor, which can lead to the depolarization of mitochondria. This inhibition of mitochondrial membrane potential leads to the death of cells by inhibiting their ability to produce ATP for energy production. Tropodithietic acid has also been shown to increase the survival rate of probiotic bacteria in vitro and in vivo. The effects are more pronounced when it is administered before or during an infection, rather than after an infection has already occurred.
