Description:
But-1-en-2-ylbenzene is a sulfonation product of styrene and tetrahydrofuran. It is soluble in nonpolar solvents such as chloroform, benzene, ether, and petroleum ether. The reaction system is anionic with chloride ions as the anion. This compound has a high viscosity and polymerizes easily. But-1-en-2-ylbenzene can be used as a ligand or as a transfer agent to hydrogenate aromatic hydrocarbons. It also can be polymerized to form polybutadiene monomers.
