Product Information

Name:
1,3,5-Cyclohexanetriol (cis- and trans- mixture)
Synonyms:
  • Cyclohexane-1,3,5-triol
  • NSC 25143
  • Phloroglucitol
Description:

1,3,5-Cyclohexanetriol is a reactive chemical with a polycyclic structure. It is used as an additive in the manufacture of polycarbonates and other plastics. 1,3,5-Cyclohexanetriol is also used in the synthesis of polyvinyl alcohols. The hydroxy group on the molecule makes it reactive to aliphatic hydrocarbons and water vapor. When heated or exposed to light, 1,3,5-cyclohexanetriol undergoes intramolecular hydrogen bonding to form a particle. 1,3,5-Cyclohexanetriol has been shown to react with fatty acids at low energy levels in order to form esters which are soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone.
