3-Acryloyl-2-oxazolidinone is a chiral molecule that can be used to synthesize enantiomerically enriched compounds. The reaction rate of this compound is enhanced by the presence of magnesium metal, which also catalyzes the reaction. Acetylation of 3-acryloyl-2-oxazolidinone with ethyl diazoacetate and acid catalyst gives an isoxazolidine, which is a functional group. This functional group can be used to create other organic molecules.
