(2R)-2-Amino-5-phenylpentanoic acid is an analog of the natural amino acid, L-s-adenosylmethionine. It is a derivative of pyruvoyl, with two additional methyl groups at the C2 position. (2R)-2-Amino-5-phenylpentanoic acid can be synthesized by reacting triflic acid and 2(3H)-furanone. This molecule has been shown to inhibit enzymatic reactions in a supramolecular chemistry system, such as the inhibition of SSAO, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of s-adenosylmethionine to adenosine and 5′ adenosylhomocysteine.
