Product Information
2,2²-Dihydroxyazobenzene (DAB) is a fluorescent dye that has been used in biological research. DAB can be found in glycerol and fatty acids, which are components of the cell membranes. It is also present in human serum and can be detected using phase transition temperature measurements. Chronic exposure to DAB has been shown to affect the activity of cyclase enzymes, which are involved in the synthesis of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).
DAB is absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes and enters the bloodstream, where it can be detected in liver cells. In vitro assays have shown that DAB inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA topoisomerases and preventing DNA replication. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to proteins involved in RNA synthesis. Tumefaciens-mediated transformation studies have shown that DAB is capable of inducing mutations in genes encoding proteins involved in fatty acid synthesis.
