N-(2,5-Dimethylphenyl)acetamide is a chemical compound with the molecular formula of C8H11N. It is a white solid that can be obtained through hydrogenation of 2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde or alternatively by acetoxylation of 2,5-dimethylbenzoic acid. The yield of this compound is low and it has been shown to react with pyridine in the presence of hydrochloric acid to form 6-methoxyindole. This reaction is regioselective and yields two products, one from the methyl group and one from the benzene ring.
