4-(Trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid (4-TFMC) is a potent inhibitor of bacterial peptidomimetic, which inhibits the activity of cinnamic acid and lysine synthesis. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria. 4-TFMC has also been shown to have antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in vitro. 4-TFMC binds to the active site of bacterial enzymes, thereby inhibiting their function. This may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with hydroxyl groups on the enzyme surface or by acting as an electron-donating group in a Michael reaction. The molecular modeling studies revealed that 4-TFMCA binds to the active site of peptidomimetics and inhibits the amino acid binding site, which prevents peptide bond formation.
