Description

2'-Phenylacetanilide is an avian influenza virus inhibitor that blocks the binding of serotonin to its receptor by acting as a serotonin receptor antagonist. 2'-Phenylacetanilide has been shown to be effective in treating bowel disease and cardiovascular disorders, such as heart arrhythmia, which are thought to be caused by carcinoid syndrome. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. 2'-Phenylacetanilide selectively inhibits the activity of hydroxylase enzymes, which catalyze reactions that produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin. The inhibition of hydroxylase enzymes prevents the production of serotonin, thereby alleviating inflammatory bowel disease symptoms.
