Product Information
2-Chloroethyl carbamate is a synthetic anticancer agent that inhibits the synthesis of nucleic acids, protein, and lipids. It is an inhibitor of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. Carbamates inhibit the activity of enzymes by forming covalent bonds with amino acid residues at their active site. 2-Chloroethyl carbamate has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on chloroplast function and growth in alfalfa cells. The inhibition was dose-dependent and it can be reversed by adding 4-methylumbelliferone or xanthate. 2-Chloroethyl carbamate also had no effect on cell division when tested on lysine residues.
