Pentadecylbenzene is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 123-124 °C and a density of 1.038 g/mL at 25 °C. It is used as an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, as well as a chemical intermediate in the production of phosphorus pentachloride. Pentadecylbenzene has been shown to be used as an acidic catalyst for alkylation reactions, especially in nonpolar solvents. This compound also reacts with unsaturated alkyl compounds to form reactive intermediates that are used in chain reactions.
