Hexaphenyldigermoxane consists of a hexaphenyl-substituted dioxane ring with an acceptor group (e.g., chloride) at one end. Hexaphenyldigermoxane is a new type of organometallic compound that has been used to synthesize polymers and polymeric precursors, as well as uv-absorbing materials. It is also effective as a polymerization initiator and can be used to generate polymers with high molecular weights. Hexaphenyldigermoxane has been shown to be an efficient solid catalyst for the synthesis of various organic compounds including hydrocarbons, halides, and germanium compounds.
