Description

Copper(II) cyclohexanebutyrate is a monomer that polymerizes to form a film. It is used as a biocide in coatings and in the production of antibacterial films. The reactive nature of copper(II) cyclohexanebutyrate makes it useful for reactions with diazonium salts, metal ions, and ammonium nitrate. Copper(II) cyclohexanebutyrate can be used as an antibacterial agent by reacting with particles such as ammonium nitrate to form copper nitrate and nitrogen dioxide gas. This reaction solution has been shown to have an antibacterial effect against Gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis, but not against Gram-negative bacteria like Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
