3-Methyl-1-nitrobutan-2-ol is a solvent that is used to dissolve other solids or liquids. It is an organic solvent that is used in the manufacture of quinoxalines, carbonyl, heterocycles, and nitro compounds. This solvent has been shown to be an effective reagent for the synthesis of nitro compounds using chloroform as a starting material. 3-Methyl-1-nitrobutan-2-ol is also used as a lipase inhibitor and can be synthesized by reacting benzoyl chloride with 1,3 butadiene. The stereoselectivity of this reaction can be further increased by adding amide groups to the molecule.
