Methyl 2-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate is a liquid phase, salicylaldehyde derivative that is dehydrated to form oxetane. It has been shown to be an effective amide donor. Methyl 2-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate can be used as a crotonic acid acceptor in the synthesis of alkali metal salts. This compound has also been shown to react with copper chromite, generating hydrogenated copper chromite. Methyl 2-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate is soluble in organic solvents and reacts with hydroxyl groups at temperatures between −20 and +100 °C.
