Product Information
- 1H-benzimidazole-2-ethanethiol
- 2-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)ethanethiol
2-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)ethanethiol is a thioether that has been shown to exhibit anion activity. It can be synthesized by reacting 2-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)acetic acid with ethanethiol in the presence of copper, followed by hydrolysis. The compound displays potentials that range from -0.8 V to -0.9 V depending on the nature of the substituents and solvent. 2-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)ethanethiol has also been shown to have spectra that are unsymmetrical and rhombic, which is due to its electronic properties. This compound is able to form crystal structures with chloride ions at potentials as high as 1.5 V, which are geometries that are not found for other thioethers.
