Product Information

Name:
4-Phenylbut-3-enoic acid
Synonyms:
  • Styrylacetic acid
  • 4-Phenyl-3-butenoic acid
  • 3-Butenoic acid, 4-phenyl-
Description:

4-Phenylbut-3-enoic acid is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compound that has been shown to inhibit tumorigenesis, and to have inhibitory properties against inflammatory diseases in cell culture. 4-Phenylbut-3-enoic acid may be an antiinflammatory agent that inhibits protein synthesis by interfering with hydrogen bonding. The chemical structure of 4-phenylbutanoic acid is similar to the active site of the receptor, which may explain its antiinflammatory activity. It is also possible that 4-phenylbutanoic acid acts as a type of polymeric matrix for water vapor, which would account for its observed inhibition of inflammation.
