2,3,5-Trimethylnaphthalene is a synthetic aromatic hydrocarbon that is used in wastewater treatment and as a reaction product. It has been classified as a known human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). 2,3,5-Trimethylnaphthalene is found in coal tar and can be detected in air samples and in human tissue. The median concentration of 2,3,5-trimethylnaphthalene in wastewater ranges from 0.2 to 1.0 micrograms per liter.
