2,3,3-Trichloroacrylic acid is a monomer that can be used in radiation treatment. It is a reversible covalent cross-linking agent with functional groups such as chloride and trichloroacetic acid. 2,3,3-Trichloroacrylic acid reacts with hydrochloric acid to form trichloroacetic acid, which can then react with polyethylene terephthalate to produce the polymerization inhibitor 2,3,3-trichloropropenic acid. This product has a high boiling point and is liquid at room temperature. The heat resistance of this product allows for it to be used in the polymerization process. This product also has a low molecular weight (MW) and is chemically stable.
