Product Information
(E)-N-Benzylidene-4-methylaniline is a polymerization initiator that is used to initiate the polymerization of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate). It can be detected by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy, which is a technique that uses radiation to detect the presence of free radicals. The ESR spectrum for this compound has been shown to have an imine peak at about 270°K. This compound also forms cyanide ions when heated with cyanide salts, which can be used as a selective detection method. Electron spin resonance (ESR) can also be used as a tool in determining the reaction mechanism of this compound. ESR studies have indicated that it reacts with oxygen by forming an imine radical, which then reacts with another molecule of oxygen to form hydrogen peroxide.
