Product Information
3,7-Dimethyl-2,6-octadienyl isobutyrate is a cetylpyridinium chloride compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This compound also inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 3,7-Dimethyl-2,6-octadienyl isobutyrate is an oxygenated methyl cinnamate with a terpenoid backbone and may be used as a fragrance in soaps or detergents. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of gardenia plants by acting as an α-pinene mimetic. The bactericidal effects of this compound are due to its ability to form reactive oxygen species and cause DNA damage.
