- Lauryl methyl ketone
- Methyl dodecyl ketone
- Tetradecanone
2-Tetradecanone is a methyl ketone. It has been shown to be toxic in animal studies and can inhibit lipid biosynthesis by reacting with the hydroxy group of fatty acid. 2-Tetradecanone also inhibits recombinant cells from producing unsaturated ketones, which are important reaction products for industrial chemicals. This chemical is found in many plants as a carbon source and has been shown to be a potential biomarker for oxygenated environments. 2-Tetradecanone has been shown to inhibit the growth of herpes simplex virus at low concentrations, but is not active against human cytomegalovirus.
