Description:

Heneicosanoic acid is a compound that has been found to have antimicrobial properties. It has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of bacteria in wastewater treatment, and is also active against human pathogens such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Heneicosanoic acid is also used as an analytical method for determining the dry weight of Ganoderma lucidum. The compound was first isolated from G. lucidum grown on pentacosanoic acid, which is an unsaturated alkyl fatty acid. Heneicosanoic acid has been shown to inhibit growth factor receptor activity in the cell membrane, which may contribute to its antibacterial properties.
