Description:

2-Hydroxy-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, specifically leukemia cells. 2-Hydroxy-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme tryptophan synthase and blocking the synthesis of 5HTP, which leads to lower levels of serotonin in the body. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus pyogenes (the bacteria that causes strep throat) and Staphylococcus aureus, but not other bacteria such as E. coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2-Hydroxy-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone also blocks light from reaching skin cells, inhibiting dermatopathy.
