1-Butanol, 3-methyl-, 4-methylbenzenesulfonate is a synthetic chemical that is used as a lubricant and has been shown to be a metalloprotease inhibitor in vitro. This molecule also inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases and proteinases. 1-Butanol, 3-methyl-, 4-methylbenzenesulfonate has a phase transition temperature of about -78 °C and an alkoxycarbonyl group with three hydroxyl groups. It is soluble in water, alcohols, ethers, and hydrocarbons. 1-Butanol, 3-methyl-, 4-methylbenzenesulfonate can be used as an acid catalyst in organic synthesis reactions and can also be used as a refrigerant.
