N,N-Diethyl-3-nitrobenzamide is an organic compound that belongs to the class of nitriles. It is a low temperature reaction product of benzoic acid and nitrous acid. The compound has two isomers, one being the more stable form at low temperatures and one being the more stable form at high temperatures. N,N-Diethyl-3-nitrobenzamide can be used as a starting material for other organic compounds. It can be chlorinated with Cl2 gas to produce 3-chlorobenzamide or it can be nitrated with NO2 gas to produce 3-nitrobenzamide. This compound also reacts with amides in alkaline solutions to produce N,N'-diethylamide.
