Methyl tetracosane is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of alkylalkyl. It has shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine and is associated with Alzheimer's disease. Methyl tetracosanoate has been shown to have antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to reduce free radicals in cell culture experiments. This compound also inhibits the uptake of radioactive thymidine by cells from rat liver and human serum samples. Methyl tetracosanoate can be used as a biodiesel fuel additive or as a raw material for the production of cosmetics and fragrances.
