4,4'-Dichlorodiphenyl ether is an organic compound that belongs to the group of diphenyl ethers. It is used as a fungicide, insecticide, and chemical intermediate. 4,4'-Dichlorodiphenyl ether inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to cytochrome P-450 in granule cells in the cerebellum. This binding prevents the oxidation of carbon sources, preventing an acidic environment from being produced and leading to cell death. The reaction rate for this process can be modelled mathematically using a Friedel-Crafts reaction system with various variables such as concentration and temperature.
