1,4-Dithiin-2,3,5,6-tetracarbonitrile is a synthetic compound that has been used in dyestuffs and pharmaceuticals. It is an amido derivative of carbon disulphide with a heterocyclic amine group. 1,4-Dithiin-2,3,5,6-tetracarbonitrile is not reactive with thionyl chloride or amines and is insoluble in water.
1,4-Dithiin-2,3,5,6-tetracarbonitrile was originally synthesized by reacting chlorosulphonic acid with the lactam of diethyl malonate:
